About Lake Hartwell
Hartwell Lake is one of the southeast's largest and most popular lakes. With 56000 acres of water and nearly 1000 miles of shoreline its fascination is based on the recreational and living aspect for thousands of people every year.
Lake Hartwell is a man-made lake created where the Tugaloo and the Seneca River form the Savana River. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963 as part of a flood control, hydropower and navigation project, recreational purpose, water quality and supply aspects were added. Hartwell is today one of the most visited Corps lakes in the nation.
